Easter Discovery

Discovery happens each Friday morning with our Junior Syndicate.  That is Room 1, 7 and 8, our 5-7 year olds.  As you will be aware Play-Based Learning is something the Junior Syndicate are ‘inquiring ‘ into this year.  It is just as it says- learning through play.  Each class will be trying different things to encourage and measure whether play-based learning works in their classrooms.  Discovery is when we all get together and offer a range of different experiences for the children to have fun learning through.  There is no must-do’s but plenty of can-dos and will-do’s.  It is a great morning where you see creative minds in action.

Our last Discovery session for the term had an Easter theme.  There was the usual choice of different  activities both inside the classrooms and out.  Thankfully it was a dry day so we could make the most of the spaces available.  We had toast making and butterfly wings being created in Room 8 along with the usual playdough and painting.  In Room 7 there were Easter crafts of all descriptions.  The highlight being  Sam, Tilly's  teachers aide, coming along on her day off to create yummy Easter marshmallow treats with the children. That just shows the type of dedication she brings to her job, and the children just loved it. A small group of dedicated gardeners worked the entire time planting flower seedlings around the bases of all the trees.  Then there was the usual outside activities of water play and sporting gear.  Once again the talk around the water trough and the thought processes behind getting the water from the trough, through a thin plastic pipe where it made a lake which even had stock banks to stop the water escaping, was amazing and such fun to be a part of.

This sort of experience lends itself to different combinations of children enjoying interacting, exploring  and playing together. I know it is the highlight of the week for alot of the children and we look forward to many more sessions of ‘Discovering’ throughout the year.
We would love you to come a long and be part of the fun on any Friday morning.  If your creative juices are flowing bring some cool ideas for us to incorporate in to our sessions too.
But beware there is serious fun to be had ‘playing’.
